By Joy Crosby, ACN President
November always feels like a good time to pause and take stock, not just of what we’ve accomplished but of the people and experiences that make it all worthwhile. As I reflect on this past year, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for this organization and the incredible people who make up the Ag Communicators Network.
I’m thankful for the friendships and professional relationships that have grown through ACN. Whether it’s sharing ideas at a workshop, collaborating on a project, or simply catching up over coffee at conference, I’m continually reminded that our network is more than a collection of communicators; it’s a community that supports, challenges and inspires one another.
I’m also deeply grateful for the spirit of generosity that runs through this organization. So many of you give your time, share your knowledge, and open doors for others without hesitation. That willingness to give back is what makes ACN special, and it inspires me to find new ways to serve in return. We have some opportunities for you as members to step up and serve or lead various committees or special interest groups within ACN. If you want to lend a hand, please let me know and I’ll be glad to help you find a place to give back and help ACN continue to grow.
I’m grateful for the mentors and peers who have invested their time and wisdom into helping others succeed. Each conversation, piece of advice or word of encouragement strengthens our shared commitment to agricultural storytelling and reminds us why what we do matters. Agriculture depends on strong communicators, and ACN helps us sharpen our skills while also nurturing the next generation of storytellers.
And finally, as we look toward the year ahead, I’m hopeful we all find ways to give back—to the organization, to our industry and to one another. That might mean volunteering for a committee, mentoring a student member, or simply reaching out to a fellow communicator to offer encouragement. Every act of giving strengthens the foundation of this network and ensures its continued impact.
Another avenue to give is through the Professional Improvement Foundation. PIF helps the ag communications profession through scholarships, professional development, stipends for the IFAJ Congress, and more. In 2025, PIF awarded $61,000 worth of grants supporting ag communication initiatives. By donating to PIF on Giving Tuesday, you are helping to pay it forward and provide opportunities for your peers and ag communication students.
This season, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on what you’re thankful for and how you can share that gratitude forward. Together, through both words and actions, we can continue building an organization rooted in connection, service and appreciation.
Wishing you all a season of gratitude and giving.
