A roundup of all the top ten social media trends from 2021, and “shadowy” secrets emerge regarding a potential Facebook algorithm. Sit back, relax, and read on in this edition of The Social Tea…..

Instagram’s Instant Upgrade

Get ready to post your photos and captions to Instagram from your desktop device! Instagram accounts were initially created as a “mobile-only” social media platform.

Now, media managers, content specialists and influencers have a more centralized way to maintain their Instagram “presence,” according to social media experts.

For now, the desktop process only allows users to post photos and videos that are less than one minute in length. Uploads to Instagram Stories and Reels are not available yet…

Location, Location, Location

How much would you pay for a piece of property that wasn’t real?

According to Metaverse Property, the first virtual real estate company, vacant land parcels in the metaverse are selling fast —with the highest virtual plot already fetching a cool $1 million.

The metaverse is a virtual reality space in which users can log in and interact with one another using avatars to represent their real selves. And now, users can also become homeowners, business owners, architects, interior designers, and more.

No word yet if users / avatars will have to pay property taxes and mortgages too….

Facebook is Watching

Have you ever wondered how Facebook recommends “friends,” also known as “People You May Know?”

Wonder no more.

You have a shadow following you—and it’s another Facebook profile that’s similar to your “real” account.

According to tech experts, the shadow profile is built from the inboxes and smartphones of other Facebook users. This means contact information you’ve never given the network will automatically be associated with your account, making it easier for Facebook to completely map out your social connections—and recommend “People You Should Know.”

According to experts, users are unknowingly quick to give up all this data under the “Find Friends” page in the Facebook smartphone app. The app invites the user to “See who’s on Facebook by continuously uploading your contacts.”

So, if someone you met 20 years ago still has your name, nickname, email address, home address and employer stored in their phone, that information is mined, sorted and stored in the shadow account.
