SEO Tips to Build an Audience
By Ashlyn Rochester, Communications Specialist
Creating content for Search Engine Optimization is crucial for building an audience for your newsletters, blogs, and your channels. SEO helps you reach wider audiences when done right. And with these four tips, here is how you can do it right.
Create Valuable Content
The first step is ensuring you’re creating content that’s relevant and related to your audience. This means you need to know who your audience is and what their struggles are. Then, you can create and share content that provides them with a solution or educational information.
Besides creating valuable content for your audience, you should keep SEO in mind when designing content. Instead of using a generic call to action such as sign up, download my guide, subscribe here, etc., transform the CTAs into value statements. “Sign Up” transforms to “Sign Up and Get my Ebook for Free”, “Download My Guide” turns into “Download My Guide and Grow Social Media Presence by 25%”, “Subscribe Here” becomes “Subscribe Here to Boost Your Audience List”. These longer CTAs add context to what the user is getting by taking this extra step.
Have a Simple Website
Google indexes each page on your website within a small amount of time, so it’s crucial your website takes advantage of that quick analysis. Not only will a simple site improve your ranking with Google, but it also creates a user-friendly experience for anyone who browses your website. A rule to keep in mind is to have an important page within 3 clicks from the home page.
Promote Your Content on Your Website
Maximize the content that lives on your website by adding internal links. They help improve SEO as it adds credibility and authority to your site. Internal links can be as simple as linking to other related web pages and adding categories to your website pages. You can also add anchor text so Google can better understand the context of why the page is linked. In anchor text, it’s important to use descriptive words. The other step you can take is making your hyperlink stand out to highlight other relevant content.
Submit a Sitemap to Google
Help Google rank your SEO higher by submitting a sitemap. A sitemap outlines the information on the web pages and the relationship between them. This will tell Google which pages are important to your website. While it sounds complex, most WordPress websites have a plugin like YoastSEO to create a sitemap. And once you have the site map, it’s as easy as submitting it to Google Search Console.
SEO will help you grow your audience indefinitely so these are tips you’ll want to incorporate to your website and content to always see growth.
