Last winter AAEA started the Photography Special Interest Group as a way to connect those of us behind the lens. The goal is to share information, inspire each other and, of course, improve our skills.

During 2018 we created the Facebook group as a private forum and tailored the photography content at the conferences to your interests with several breakout sessions at AMS and the Midwest Regional Workshop. We also featured several of the Master Photographers among us in the ByLine.

We will cap off 2018 with a webinar on Dec. 17 at noon (CST). This year’s Photographer of the Year, Rob Mattson, will share his work with us. He is the photographer and imaging specialist for Noble Research Institute in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Rob has more than 25 years of photography experience. As he spells it out on his LinkedIn, this experience includes: “unstaged, unposed, documentary storytelling in editorial, higher education and agriculture, studio and on-location portraiture, sports and political photography, coverage of both general and breaking news, story sourcing, picture editing.”

Like most of us, Rob’s current assignments are mostly on-location and can vary greatly. He will talk to us mainly about how he lights his shoots. He will also cover how he processes and archives his files.

Watch social media and your email for more details on how to attend this webinar.

Have an idea for a topic you’d like to learn more about through this Special Interest Group? Reach out to Katie Knapp at [email protected] with topic suggestions or questions. If you’d like to get more involved in the discussion at AAEA, network with other photographers, or are looking for additional educational resources, you can join the AAEA Photography Special Interest Group here.
