My Ag Media Summit Experience: Kelsey Litchfield

by Mary Kendall Dixon | Nov 16, 2018 | Ag Media Summit, The ByLine, What I Learned

By Kelsey Litchfield

If there’s one overall lesson I learned from Ag Media Summit, it’s the need to adapt – whether it’s to new media trends, new leaders in our organizations, or new ideas. As I look back on the notes I took on my iPad, I attended many sessions on digital media – from video to social media analytics to podcasting. But I also attended personal growth sessions. While I was collecting my thoughts from my time in Scottsdale, the word “adapt” kept coming back to me.

As media professionals, we are always having to adapt to new technology and trends. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s hard to keep up with.  However, if we want to continue to engage with audiences of all ages, it’s a must.

We must also adapt to new leaders of our organizations and the goals they have planned. In my opinion, it’s a great thing to bring new leaders on as they bring fresh ideas and plans.

As a combination from both points above, we must also adapt to new ideas. We can’t be complacent and stay in our comfort zone. We must be open to learning new concepts and then trying them. With every session I attended, the speakers had tangible ways for us to start a new podcast, how to create a live video, or how to be more productive in our work.

I wish I could attend Ag Media Summit every month. This conference gives me motivation to be a better version of myself and as an ag communicator. I hope you’ve taken what you’ve learned and applying it to your career or personal life.

Thank you to all who put together another great conference this year. Your hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. Also, thank you to PIF for sponsoring the first-time attendees. I look forward to attending next summer in Minneapolis!
