Leadership in Action
By Bill Spiegel, ACN President
In a month, many members of the Ag Communicator’s Network will be in Palm Springs for Ag Media Summit. You know it as the annual gathering of ACN members, plus those of the Livestock Publications Council, Ag Media Council, and the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow.
I can’t wait.
Ag Media Summit is our signature event. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work from the eight members of the AMS steering committee, comprising both LPC and ACN. This group has worked tirelessly the last 12 months, developing an incredible lineup of speakers and activities for attendees. Not only will you learn a lot, but there are also plenty of opportunities for fun and networking.
Everyone on this committee has devoted many hours in person and by virtual meeting each month, and in doing so, have crafted an agenda that provides an opportunity for every member while maintaining an affordable rate. It has been my pleasure to sit on a committee so dedicated to the well-being of its members.
The power of committees
In my tenure as ACN president, I’ve become much more appreciative of committee work. This organization is driven by the volunteer members of our 20 committees – and these volunteers are the heartbeat of ACN. The work of these groups can be daunting when we look at each committee’s objectives. But I’m reminded that a group that works together can accomplish so much more than individuals.
The next ACN president begins their term after our annual meeting at 1:45 p.m. on August 1, essentially beginning a new administration in this organization’s steeped history. We need committee members with fresh ideas and a commitment to our organization to step forward and volunteer. It is the only way ACN will continue to thrive. You can find a list of committees here. If there is one that piques your interest, please let me know via email: [email protected]
I hope to see many of you in Palm Springs.
