ACN members across the U.S. celebrated National Ag Day, and Ag Week this week with events in Washington DC and online all week. President Biden made a proclamation that March 21, 2023, is National Agriculture Day. This day will help “recognize and reaffirm our commitment to and appreciation for our country’s farmers, farmworkers, ranchers, fishers, foresters, and all those who work in the agriculture sector across the Nation.”
In addition to the proclamation, he outlined a path to promote fair competition nationwide. The administration will do so by:
- Encouraging antitrust agencies to focus on anti-competitive practices
- Secure the so-called “right to repair”
- The American Rescue Plan has invested $1 billion to help smaller meat processors expand operations
- Investing $500 million in domestic independent fertilizer production and expanding crop insurance
- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is expanding to rural areas to transform supply chains
- The Inflation Reduction Act is investing $40 billion in climate-smart agriculture, with $18 billion for conservation and easements
