By Ashlyn Thompson, ACN intern

The Ag Communicators Network gave me the incredible opportunity to attend the Ag Media Summit in St. Louis, Missouri, as an intern. This experience allowed me to connect with agricultural communications professionals from across the country while gaining valuable hands-on experience in photography, videography and social media production. Throughout the week, I had the chance to attend breakout sessions, network with industry leaders and explore the career opportunities available in agricultural communications. Every new connection and conversation strengthened my passion for sharing agriculture’s story.
During this experience, I interviewed several ACN members about why they chose to become members. It was evident to me that ACN and the Ag Media Summit are more than just professional development opportunities. They are communities where members build lasting relationships, find mentors and support one another throughout their careers. I also asked attendees to describe the Ag Media Summit in one word. The most common responses were networking, connections and inspirational, which perfectly reflected the impact the summit had on those who attended.
Kristin Harner, Kristy Mach and Joy Crosby made this experience even more meaningful with their strong mentorship. They encouraged me and were always willing to answer questions and offer guidance to help me succeed in my role with ACN.
Attending the Ag Media Summit is an experience I will never forget. I left with new skills, meaningful relationships and a network of professionals who genuinely want to see the next generation succeed. I am grateful to the Ag Communicators Network for believing in me and providing me with an opportunity that has strengthened my confidence and will continue to shape my future.
