Facebook Woes
It turns out people really like their privacy, unfortunately for Facebook.
The new Apple iOS update includes a new privacy tracking opt-out feature, which is proving to be more popular than expected. According to Flurry Analytics, 85% of users worldwide have opted out of ad tracking when prompted. That number increases to 94% for U.S. customers.
More unsettling news for Facebook. LinkedIn added an ad “boosting” feature on their platform. The new tool will make LinkedIn easier to use for small businesses and targets B2B marketers looking to promote brand awareness without learning new marketing tools.

Instagram Rank and Feed
Instagram head honcho Adam Mossori is breaking down how his platform works and says it’s all based on algorithms. Not just one algorithm – Mossori says every feature on the app—Feed, Explore and Reels—has their own formula based on how people use it.
An Instagram feed relies on five interactions between a user and the app: how likely you are to spend a few seconds on a post, comment on it, like it, save it and tap on the profile pic.

Instagram Invests in its Influencers
Influencers are clearly doing their job when it comes to persuading the popular platform to invest in them and their businesses.
Instagram is creating tools that would allow influencers to sell their products directly through their personal profiles. A new feature will even allow influencers to set up online shops via the app.
It seems more algorithms were just added to Mossori’s plate…
TikTok is Taking Over
Your local, hometown boutique or coffee shop may soon be creating their own accounts on the popular platform TikTok.
The platform’s second installment of its “Behind the Business” series focuses on how small and medium businesses are using TikTok to increase their audience engagement and marketing presence.
Technological experts predict TikTok will reach a billion active users in 2021.
Will Twitter Become the New Zoom?
People have been aflutter this week as Twitter launched a new feature called “Spaces.”
The tool allows users to join virtual chat rooms where they can engage in real-time, audio conversations with others. One slight catch: Twitter users must have 600 followers or more to use Spaces.
Other social media platforms are also planning their own live-audio features. Facebook and Spotify will implement their tools later this year.
