As we close out another year, I find myself reflecting not just on our work, but on the simple moments that make this season special. Christmas has always been a time when I’m reminded to slow down, look around and truly appreciate the people who fill my life with purpose. As a member of the Ag Communicators Network, you are an important part of my life, and I’m thankful for the friendship and mentorship you have provided.
In a profession that rarely pauses, the holidays offer us a brief but meaningful chance to take stock of what matters most. No matter where we are — in the field, behind a camera, at a keyboard, or on the road — we share a common purpose: connecting agriculture with the world around us. And while the pace of our work isn’t always slow for the holidays, I hope each of you find a moment to pause, breathe and appreciate the impact you’ve had this year.
For me, Christmas brings back memories of crowded kitchens, the smell of something warm in the oven, riding around looking at Christmas lights and plenty of family game time. On our tree at home, we still use the same light-up star that topped my family’s Christmas tree in the 80s. Every year, I ask my kids (age 9 and 12) if they want something new on top of the tree, and every year they say no — they want to keep the same old star because it was mine growing up. I honestly can’t believe it still lights up, but it does. That star means even more to me now, with both of my parents in Heaven and not here to celebrate Christmas with us in 2025. I hope you also have an ornament or keepsake that brings back memories of a loved one, a special trip or an important milestone.
As you celebrate the season, may your home feel a little warmer, your days a little slower, and your spirit a little lighter. Merry Christmas and thank you for making ACN something I’m proud to be part of. Here’s to a bright and purposeful year ahead!
