Attendees of this year’s Ag Media Summit have the opportunity to step beyond the conference walls and into the heart of Arkansas agriculture during the Northwest Arkansas Ag Tour & Photography Workshop, an all-day, immersive experience blending industry insights, local flavor, and hands-on creative development.

This year’s AMS Tour is a blend of newsmakers, fun, and professional development, said Jennifer Latzke, tour planning co-chair. “We’ll hear from experts in the poultry industry and get hands-on photography instruction in a region facing the challenges of rapid urban development. It’s an opportunity to stretch your storytelling skills while experiencing Arkansas agriculture firsthand.”

The day begins with a complimentary breakfast at the hotel before the group departs for the University of Arkansas Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences. There, participants will explore one of the country’s leading poultry research programs and discuss the challenges of farming in an increasingly urbanized region.

Next, attendees will enjoy a classic Southern lunch at The Catfish Hole in Fayetteville, known for its down-home hospitality and legendary catfish. Over crispy filets and fried chicken, tour goers will hear from President & CEO Britain White, who will share the history and impact of Catfish Hole Companies.

In the afternoon, the tour stops at Cobblestone Farms, a 25-acre nonprofit regenerative farm that grows fresh produce for community donation. The group will learn how the farm’s sustainable approach feeds local families and supports food access initiatives.

Afterward, a quick refreshment break at Pedal Park offers a relaxing interlude with two beverage tickets per guest. Choose from frozen popsicles, milkshakes, sodas, or a locally crafted beer or cider.

The tour’s final and most anticipated stop is West Family Farm, where participants will take part in a photo workshop led by Lindsay Kennedy, Assistant Professor of Practice in Agricultural Communications at Texas Tech University. Set against the backdrop of a working family farm at golden hour, the workshop will include hands-on guidance for capturing low-light images, which is an invaluable skill for any ag communicator.

Dinner will be served onsite as the group hears from the West family about the realities of farming amid encroaching development.

Don’t miss this chance to connect with Arkansas producers, sharpen your professional skillset, and gather fresh story ideas in the field. This tour is perfect for writers, photographers, communicators and anyone who enjoys learning directly from the land and people who shape our food system.
