By Amy Roady, AAEA Membership Chair
As AAEA’s new membership chair, I am excited to see how many people are joining our organization. It’s an interesting time for communicators as the skills we need continue to evolve. We also have new members joining. This creates new opportunities for us to network and get to know more people in our industry. I always find it comforting to share experiences and learn from others who get what we do and on a daily basis.
Each fall, we ramp up our membership efforts. This year our membership drive is off to a strong start with 110 members renewed as of last week. This is about 25 percent toward our goal of 400 paid members. The affiliates are slightly ahead of our active members and freelancers for membership renewal percentages. Not that we’re counting, but I encourage everyone to renew now if you haven’t done so yet.
As you network and see people during the upcoming meeting season, I encourage and challenge you to ask your fellow communicators to join AAEA- The Agricultural Communicators Network. Share your experiences, what you enjoy about the organization, the opportunities it has provided you, how it helps you professionally and why you think it’s valuable that he or she belong.
To keep our organization going forward, we need a robust group of skilled, passionate communicators who are continuously looking to improve.
Also, stay tuned for some exciting membership opportunities. We are working on some new ideas that we hope will maintain your excitement about The Ag Communicators Network.
