ACN members recently met in Omaha, Nebraska, for the fall regional workshop, and heard from industry experts on a variety of topics. The topics included everything from SEO to videography and storytelling to biofuel opportunities. Members learned about tricks of the trade and new perspectives from some of the best in the business.
Here’s some of the key points from the presentation by Bill Dodd:
- Location is truly everything. Try to be in an area that is conducive to your story.
- Shine some light on the situation. If you’re shooting indoors, extra lighting will go a long way. Consider using a three-point lighting system including a key light, fill light and back light. Motivated lighting, such as a lamp in the background, is a good way to create a source for the lighting your audience will see on screen.
- Poor audio is a no-go. Wind is your biggest enemy when recording video. Try to film in a location that blocks your mic from any wind that may be blowing. Try to get 5-10 seconds of background noise to underlay when editing the interview.
- Shooting video on your phone is not off limits, but you shouldn’t rely on it. If you do have to shoot on your phone, do NOT shoot vertically. Be sure to shoot horizontally to allow for easier editing and correct proportions.
ACN has plans for another regional workshop in Spring 2025, so be sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date!
