Meet Our Student Members: Emily Berger

April 13, 2018The ByLine

Name: Emily Berger
School: Texas A&M University
Major: Poultry Science, Agricultural Communications & Journalism
Classification: Senior (graduating May 2018)

What are your career aspirations?
I’ve been writing since childhood and would be happiest in any career where I can continue to write. My internship with Farm Journal Media last summer allowed me to experience all the joys and struggles of writing in a professional setting, strengthening my zeal for the craft. Agricultural journalism is the perfect combination of my loves for storytelling, science, and people, so a career in editorial for an agricultural publication would be ideal for me.

Why did you join AAEA?
I joined AAEA shortly after meeting Laurie Bedord at the 2017 ACT Professional Development Conference, which was hosted by Texas A&M. I assisted with the session she led and was captivated by her story and her passion for journalism. She encouraged me to apply for the 2017 AAEA Editorial Internship, which I was later grateful to accept. Through AAEA, I’ve discovered a network of professionals who continue to challenge and inspire me in a career field that I love—I have been so incredibly blessed by my membership over the past year.
