As most of you remember, AAEA The Agricultural Communicators Network changed its membership structure last summer. In an effort to continue fostering an inclusive association, the Membership Committee has proposed a Constitution Change relating to “Retired” association members which has been approved by the Board of Directors. The committee report and suggested language can be found here.

The committee and board believe this change more accurately reflects the “Retired” segment of our membership, removes arbitrary qualifications like age, and allows them the same rights as other dues-paying membership categories.

In order to amend the Constitution, this change must be voted upon by you- the membership. Voting will take place online from June 17- June 28. You will receive an email with instructions to vote on June 17. The FULL redline version of the constitution can be found here, and abbreviated changes are listed below.

The proposed change:

Note that the current constitutional language states: Retired membership shall be available to either editorial, associate or partner members who are retiring and are at least 62 years of age. Retired members can attend meetings of the association and participate in discussions, but they have no vote in Association business matters.

The proposed constitutional change states: Retired membership shall be available to editorial, associate or partner members who are no longer receiving income for communications work. Retired members who pay dues are eligible to participate and vote on Association matters.
